CALL FOR GROUP LEADER, MONTPELLIER, SOUTH OF FRANCE
The "Molecular Mechanisms in Neurodegenerative Diseases" (MMDN, http://www.mmdn.univ-montp2.fr/, Head: Jean-Michel Verdier) laboratory currently hosts 3 groups, and is hiring a senior PI, who would like to establish his/her own team in the lab. The MMDN's lab is run by INSERM (french NIH), the University of Montpellier 2 and the École Pratique des Hautes Études (Sorbonne, Paris). It is located in the University of Montpellier 2 campus.
Current and future research at MMDN focuses on the study of cerebral aging and neurodegenerative pathologies such as Alzheimer, Parkinson, and prion diseases, using a variety of cellular and animal models (zebrafish, non transgenic and transgenic rodents, lemurian primate Microcebus murinus).
We are looking for candidates who will develop with a great autonomy their research projects and complement the existing strengths of the lab in areas related to (but not restricted to) stem cells, neuronal aging, signal transduction pathways, epigenetics, and/or genomics, to advance our understanding of these diseases.
He/she will have access to various technical platforms, including mass spectrometry, FACS sorting, high throughput sequencing technologies, bioinformatics, imaging facilities, electron microscopy, animal facilities (mouse, rat, zebrafish), a behavioural phenotyping platform and a new small animal MRI facility.
The MMDN lab will be able to provide the PI with a lab of 30 m2 and an office for the collaborators
In the case of a project in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders field, the applicant with at least 5 years post-doctoral experience will have the opportunity to apply to the " Senior innovative team" permanent call of the French Alzheimer's disease foundation (maximum 1 million euros) (http://www.fondation-alzheimer.org/node/475). In this case, the applicant should not be in France for more than one year. In the meantime, the applicant will be supported to apply for a permanent position.
